From e-print to journal article – Publication Lag

With “Publication Lag” I mean the number of months between the publication of the e-print (on arXiv) and the publication of the article in the journal. The figure below shows this “lag” for a number of arXiv categories over a number of years. Clearly, the trend is for this “lag” to decrease: journal articles tend to appear more rapidly after the publication of the e-print.

The lag for 2009 will most likely become a bit more, since the e-prints published late in 2009 are still being published, so the analysis is skewed towards smaller lags at this time.
